"Eyes of the Viy"

Films: Viy 3D (2014)

Alias: Various, notably the Viy

Type: Mystical

Location: Haunted home/Civilized Area

Height/Weight: Ranges from that of rats to being indescribable.

Affiliation: Evil

Summary: Back in the 60s, we bore witness to a surreal and horrific trip involving the consequences of incurring the wrath of ornery demons. Here, we see...well, it would be generous to call it something in the same vein. But when it's not obnoxiously milking the 3D gimmick all the time, it truly does come into its own in some way.

History: Somewhere in Transylvania, there's a small village with a big problem. The demonic monster known as the Viy has a vice grip on it, and its many minions make sure people are lulled into its grasp to become its sustenance. For a guy who just got lost and all the way here due to a fog, this could provide some issues. But for what it's worth, there might be a chance at ridding the place of the vile demons.

Notable Kills: Nothing special.

Final Fate: After many humans are ousted as making things worse and a ton of religious work is done, it seems that the village is finally free from Viy's thrall. However, as the visitor's carriage leaves for elsewhere, one of the tiny demons hitches a ride. We cannot be certain what will happen next. Possibly nothing.

Powers/Abilities: All demons can take on mortal form, while Viy has a hypnotic gaze that leaves people wide-open. All demons can also possess the living.

Weakness: Holy rituals/objects.

Scariness Factor: 3.5-There's only really one scene where we see the demons in all of their glory, but what a scene it is. Sure, some of the effects don't quite hold up, but the horrific designs sure as Hell do. And of course, there's Viy itself. That thing needs smaller demons to open up its flappy lids to reveal thousands of eyes put together as if they were a bug's compound eyes!

Trivia: -This film was originally meant to be released in 2009 in order to coincide with the 200th anniversary of the life of Nikolay Gogol, the author of the original story.

-This was the highest grossing movie in Russia in 2014, even if it wasn't released internationally.

Lock and load and cross your fingers in back of the demon.

Surprised the poster wasn't cut by the swords.

Skekhor, I presume? What? I made that up.
Good luck finding a glimmer of hope in this poster.

How to make a forgotten Russian film?

"Ergh! What an ugly Gelfling!"
Behold! The power of...Insanity Wolf's tears?

It's about to get all Silent Hill here.
Harry Potter wouldn't last a minute here.
